~ also known as N-Butyl acrylate; 141-32-2; Butyl prop-2-enoate; N-Butyl propenoate; Acrylic acid butyl ester; etc. is a chemical used in manufacturing. Global Butyl Acrylate market will be worth $9.4 Billion by 2018. Butyl acrylate market size will witness a strong growth by 2024 due to increasing potential applications in various end-use industries.
Chemical structure: CH2=CHCOOC4H9 or C7H12O2. It is highly reactive and polymerizes easily when exposed to heat or peroxides.
Properties: Butyl acrylate is a clear colorless liquid with a sharp characteristic odor. It is slightly soluble in water and somewhat less dense than water.
Production:
Butyl acrylate can be produced in several reactions.
  1. Acetylene, 1-butyl alcohol, carbon monoxide, nickel carbonyl, and hydrochloric acid can react to make butyl acrylate.
  2. The reaction of butanol with methyl acrylate or acrylic acid can also produce butyl acrylate.
Chemical reactions and Uses: Butyl acrylate reacts easily with strong acids and bases, amines, halogens, hydrogen compounds, and oxidizers. It can be stabilized with hydroquinone or hydroquinone ethyl ether.
Butyl acrylate is used in paints, sealants, coatings, adhesives, fuel, textiles, plastics, and caulk.
